Junior Club Tennis Programs

 
 

When selecting the appropriate program for the junior player, parents can be guided by the following indicator (in this order):

  1. Aspiration

  2. Ability

  3. Age

Tennis Whiz

Tennis Whiz is designed to enhance the skills and confidence on the court of the youngest players in the program. The program is described as a Fundamental Motor Skills Program delivered through Tennis. Children learn the skills of running, jumping, throwing, catching and much more as well as the basics of tennis. The fun “Adventure Story Approach,” which themes every lesson, even includes some “Set for School” skills helping with basic numeracy, literacy and reasoning. Tennis Whizz takes an active “Learning through Play” approach.
Ages: 3-4 y/o

Munchkins

Munchkins is an introductory tennis program for 5-6 y/o that covers all basic strokes and rally fundamentals.  Balance, coordination, ball, racquet and tennis specific skills are covered in the program.  A basic points and scoring is introduced. Silver and Gold levels are offered to provide opportunities for beginners and more experienced players to train in their correct environments. This program uses the red ball and is taught on the 36 foot court.

Topshots

Topshots is either an introductory tennis program or a good progression from the munchkins program for 7 - 8 y/o that covers all basic stroke and rally fundamentals. Court awareness, 3-D reception skills and rally skills are developed based on the players’ developmental stage. An understanding of accumulating points and scoring theme are developed as well as an introduction to point play in both singles and doubles may be introduced. Silver and Gold levels are offered to provide opportunities for beginners and more experienced players to train in their correct environments. This program uses the red ball and is taught on the 36 foot court.

Topshots Diamond (Invitational)

Topshots Diamond is a program, which can be entered by invitation only. Players who are selected to train in this program have developed the skills required for serving, returning the serve and also rallying with their practice partner. The players can compete and have a solid understanding of what this means. This program providing technical stroke development, specific tennis movement skill acquisition, and builds on singles and doubles positions and fundamental tactics. 3-D reception skills are incorporated into the technical and tactical themes. Direction and depth themes (hitting and receiving) are developed. Players at this level can serve underhand with direction, rally with some directional and depth control, and rally a minimum of 3-4 shots (total) consistently. Overhead serve with direction is developed.

This program uses the red ball and is taught on the 1/2 court and a regular tennis net (42 foot- service box court) however players may use the 60 foot court and the orange balls at times.

Junior Academy (JA)

Junior Academy is the next stage from the Top-Shot Program. This program is for juniors wishing to learn and improve, but at a social level.  Players are grouped into similar 'skill and social level'.  The Junior Academy program will teach and develop players’ reception skills, stroke production, rallying and understanding of the game of tennis. Singles and Doubles theme are covered/developed. Silver and Gold levels are offered to provide opportunities for beginners and more experienced players to train in their correct environments. This program uses the orange ball and is taught on the 60 foot court. Players who reach the Gold Level in this program may want to play in the Junior Orange League to provide a competitive component to their weekly training.

Club A - Team (CAT)

This program in the next stage from Junior Academy (JA).The program is for juniors who are ready to train on the full court and progress to the green ball. Players are grouped into similar 'skill and social level'.  This program will teach and develop players reception skills, stroke production, court awareness, rally skills and understanding the game of tennis. This program uses the green ball and is taught on the full size court however players may use the 60 foot court and the orange balls at times. Players in this program may want to play in the Junior Box League to provide a competitive component to their weekly training.

Squad Program

This program is for juniors who are ready to train on the full court and progress to the regular tennis ball. This program will teach and develop players stroke production, rallying and understanding of the game of tennis. This program uses the regular ball and is taught on the full size court however players may use the green balls at times when they are developing a specific part of the game. Players in this program may want to play in the SRC Junior Challenge Ladder to provide a competitive component to their weekly training.

Teen Tennis

Teen Tennis is a fun program to music catering for teenagers. Each session comprises of 60 minutes of good fun tennis specific exercises to teach the beginner or more experienced player everything there is to know about tennis. Our coaches will show you that tennis is fun when you have friends, music and sport together.

Tennis Camps

The SRC Tennis Centre run a comprehensive calendar of Spring & Summer Tennis Camps. The camps cater for ages 6~14 year-olds and feature a dynamic on-court program of tennis-specific games and skill development. Lunch and off-court activities are also offered in the camps.
